The street Willem Beukelstraat is part of Watergraafsmeer in Amsterdam east. The ground has made dry in 1629 for the first time and after a flooding 20 years later a second time. The rich people from Amsterdam founded country seats for an outdoor area to escape the crowds of the city. There was a big short of houses in the beginning of the 20th century. Housing blocks with the first modern experiments with strips has been built in this area.

The house with number 35 is an open corner block. This means that the volume of the blok is not finished on the top level. Our announcement was to fill up this gap for extra sleeping grooms for the kids.

The most complicated was to make the new part look like as it was built 100 years ago. We used the same brick, the same windows and copied the old wood details. Additional we cleaned the existing brick and renew the splice.

The neighbour house with the number 36 is a house with three apartments on each level. The top level could extend one room on the roof following the rule of the outside the destination plan of Amsterdam east.

The top level was realized with sustainable vertical wood strips in a dark red color so that it will fit in the color of the surrounding. There was enough space for one sleeping room with a bit window to the roof terrace, a bathroom and a storage.
